Taking Care of Your Eyelash Extensions: Dos and Don’ts

How do you shower with eyelash extensions? Can I swim with eyelash extensions? What products should I use?

Lash extensions have become popular and it’s not hard to see why. After all, who wouldn’t want to wake up and feel like their face is prepped and ready for the day? While it’s definitely much less effort than mascara, it still requires some maintenance effort to ensure your lashes hold up well.

If you’re considering getting eyelash extensions for the first time, or haven’t had them in a while and have forgotten how to care for them, read on for some useful pro tips.

Do keep them as dry as possible right after the application.

How you go about the first 24-48 hours after your appointment affects how well your extensions last. In order to let the lash extensions’ adhesive to cure as strong as possible, avoid staying out in the humid Singapore heat, as well as steam-filled environments like a sauna, spa, or hot shower. A HIIT session might also have to wait.

To prevent the lashes from coming in contact with water when you shower, some sites might suggest not washing your hair, or using cotton pads to cleanse your face. These work well, but if you’re feeling creative and can’t go without a thorough face cleanse, you could also try wearing goggles to cover protect your eye area!

Do not use oil-based skincare and makeup products.

Oil can dissolve the glue in your eyelash extensions, making your precious extensions fall out. Swap out your face products for water-based ones. Carefully read the product ingredients for your eyeliner, lash primer, and eye makeup remover to ensure they do not contain oil. If you incorporate face oils into your skincare routine, be sure to avoid the eye area.

Do keep up with your natural lash care routine.

While you got some extra help from the lash extensions, don’t skimp on TLC for your natural lashes as well! Eyelash serums can help to nourish and strengthen your lashes, promoting thicker, longer lash growth. We recommend our Cavilla Lash Serum- a lash growth serum to be applied on the lash line. It can be applied before and after extensions to promote healthy lash growth.

Do brush and cleanse your extensions regularly.

To keep your lash extensions in top condition, and to prevent any awkward clumping or criss-crossing of lash extension hairs, brush them regularly. Here’s how to brush your lashes the right way:

  1. Ensure your lashes are dry before brushing.
  2. Make sure you’re using the right tools. A clean mascara spoolie brush or eyebrow brush would do the job. Be sure to cleanse the brushes with brush cleaners before putting it so close to your eyes.
  3. Brush gently, starting from the middle of the extension and then brushing outward
